I was going to say something about the rings/silmarils/forging, but I think I have a better guess. Eorl was the guy who helped Cirion in some war or another, and was gifted the land that he used to found Rohan, with him as king. Eorl and Cirion swore oaths to each other that they would be forever allies, and so... Is it Celebrimbor, because the others all swore oaths?

Yes, indeed! Cirion, Eorl, and Feanor can all be fitted into the phrase "the Oath of ___."
Your go, Beren!

Well done! The others are artificial - werewolves and orcs created through Morgoth's twisted ways, and dwarves invented by an overly zealous Aule.

Frodo's index finger is the only one that goes specifically against something written in the books? The other three movie-onlies could work into canon if you're being generous, but I believe Tolkien says it's Frodo's "third finger" (which I take to mean his ring-finger, but that could be debated) that Gollum bites off.
And if that's not what you're looking for, Brego's the only one that makes it through the films in one piece.

Both are utterly excellent answers but you're not quite there.
You're getting there with your first line of reasoning ~ but that's not the one I was looking for.

OK, I can say that it's all to do with book/film appearances...

Is it Lurtz because in the film his character was given more importance than he does in the books,i.e actually given a name??
