I dunno about you all, but I think they overdid the whole Arwen/Aragorn love thing in the movie. Arwen and Aragorn did have a love thing goin but it had no real relevance. Some argue that it was in the Appendices, and that makes it ok. I say, it was in the appendices for a reason, if it was meant to be part of the main story JRR would have put it in there. I wouldn't mind if they didn't make such a big deal out of it all, but when they somehow weasel Arwen into the Two Towers by causing Aragorn to go unconcious, that is just going too far. I mean, if they were gonna do that, why not add Tom Bombadil into the movies.

i totally agree. arwen took too prominent a role in the movies. tom bombadil was cooler and had a (relatively) prominent role.

I agree with you Bombadil. I think they played up Arwen too much. Yes she is in the appendices and it is important background information, but that is what it is background. They added and replaced other characters to build up Arwen more. That has always not set well with me. But before Boromir gets in here , I do like the movies and take them for what they are - MOVIES. No one could translate Tolkien to film because you just couldn't put all the character detail into it as the books do. Just some of my thoughts.

famous or infamous...the plot thickens. i totally agree. nobody, even someone as talented as peter jackson, could truly put lord of the rings in a ~3 hour movie

I don't know if anyone's gonna agree with me buuuuut I think expanded the role of Arwen did the production good, because in something such as a war like this, it's good to have a kinda light, a romance story.
And you think - ya sure there's Eowyn ad Faramir but their story don't come in til the Return of the King and having the other two movies come before them and still not having a romance story in parrallel with everything may or may not cause the production some backup-money-wise.

Yeah the Arwen/ Aragorn story was overplayed wayyy to much!!!! But the real crime was not putting in some of the better charachters even if the movie already is 3 hours long, what bout Tom Bombadil!! Sorry, didnt mean to rant.

For the movie I think it was great that Peter Jackson chose to show more of the relationship betwen Arwen and Aragorn. Arwen plays well in the movies and people like to see love interests. I'm sure to us Arwen is not that important but to Aragorn I'm sure she's very important and more than just in the appendices of his life. The only thing is I wish they didn't diminish Glorfindels' role for Arwen's sake. IMO it makes a better movie to put in Arwen than Bombidil. In the book he was cool but no one can make sense of him. How would you put that in a movie and not have people saying what the? Who was that? Just my post bar ramblings. good night. from the Green Dragon. ;D
