For the movie I think it was great that Peter Jackson chose to show more of the relationship betwen Arwen and Aragorn. Arwen plays well in the movies and people like to see love interests. I'm sure to us Arwen is not that important but to Aragorn I'm sure she's very important and more than just in the appendices of his life. The only thing is I wish they didn't diminish Glorfindels' role for Arwen's sake. IMO it makes a better movie to put in Arwen than Bombidil. In the book he was cool but no one can make sense of him. How would you put that in a movie and not have people saying what the? Who was that? Just my post bar ramblings. good night. from the Green Dragon. ;D Yeah I really wanted to see Glorfindel but did you know there's an actual face for Glorfindel? We've seen him in RotK but never really saw him as Glorfindel. But that's a whole 'nother subject. Arwen's role was expanded, and it was a good expansion yes because of y'know they kinda needed that feminem romance into the storyline - sure there's Eowyn and Faramir but their part doesn't come into the story until Two Towers - Return of the King.

IMO Arwen's role wasn't expanded Jackson just chose to put more of her story on film than was written. He didn't stray from Tolkien's vision and stayed true to the characters. Just added a little story line that wasn't written down that made the movie's more interesting to the mass public while staying true to the characters.
