Advent starts November 28th. Do you celebrate Advent? If so how do you celebrate? Would love to hear your Advent traditions.

Advent calendars. I’m pretty sure you guys have them over there. Little doors? Bits of stale chocolate behind each one?

I buy them every year JW (1 for me and 1 for each of my girls). I also have an advent calendar that someone made, where you put a new picture (velcro) to a cloth Christmas tree, which I hang on my wall. This year I want to put together an advent wreath and each Sunday light a candle. I want to stretch out my Christmas celebrations, so I figure adding more Advent celebrations will help.

Ah, yes, Advent calendars. My uncle (who lives in Bury St. Edmund's) sends them over every year. I'm not sure that they're that common over here, actually. Which is a terrible shame, if you ask me. We also have an Advent wreath at my house. Other traditions at my house include making Hungarian tree decorations (my mother's side of the family is Hungarian) out of candies wrapped in foil and tissue paper. My sister and I usually put on a Nativity pageant with our friends for our neighborhood, but we're both getting a bit old for it, and are considering just having a simple party this year. I'm also curious what everyone does for the holidays, especially since we have members from several different countries. It's such a nice time of year, and the great traditions surrounding it make it even more so. Elen sila lumenn omentielvo, Lomadia

Last year, someone set up an internet "advent calendar" counting down the days to the Return of the King release. It was quite impressive. Each day had a nice picture and a quote from the book or movie (or, in one case, "The Matrix"). Does anyone still have the link. I'd love to reminisce. Elen sila lumenn omentielvo, Lomadia

Our family is BIG on Christmas!! We have a velcro thing, that you put the shepards, animals, wise men, etc. on, and there is one for each day or December. Then we have a felt Christmas tree, that hangs on the wall, and we put felt ornaments on it each day, and candles for sundays. We also have one, that you just put the candy cane on which day of December it is. Then we also have a chalk board that says "_ days 'til Chrismas!" and you fill in the blank with the chalk. Then we do a devotional. The devotional is different every year 4 us. The one we r doing this year is on Handel's 'Messiah'. My Grandfather loves Chrismas a WHOLE lot! I was visiting with him in FL in March, and we went to a place that kept injured birds, and as we left, he tells the lady @ the desk, "Oh, and by the way, I just wanted to be the first one to tell you, Merry Christmas." Lol.
