Do you have a career/job? In other words, what do you want to be when you grow up? (I know there are many older people here who have not grown up yet either. )

I've just become a qualified aeronautical engineer. I also do some political work for my works union and labour party.

Very cool JWe!!!
I'm an at-home mom and have never really had a career. I've had a few jobs, mostly relating to administrative stuff. I'm pretty good on the computer and create newsletters, flyers, and websites for non-profits (which means I don't make any money and I don't really mind; I like volunteering).

I used to be in museum administration and programming, but am now a happily self-employed, full time mom. :-)
Mostly, I design and create historical and fantasy costumes, reproduce and restore historic clothing and textiles, and repair old quilts. I also do an occasional art commission, play in a band, and do folklife presentations for school groups.
I guess I can't really call that a career......I do what I love, and love what I do.

Ah, that evil question has been attacking me quite a bit as I'm in the college search process. Right now I think I would really like to be an English teacher. I love language, and am so fascinated by how complex the English language is, borrowing from and building upon other languages. And of course reading is one of my favorite hobbies, and I'd really like to spend time researching different interpretations and thinking about and discussing books. Another path I've been thinking about is some sort of technical job in filmmaking, as a costume designer or director or production designer. I really enjoy acting, too, but wouldn't ever do it for a career. But there's something about the film industry that makes me prefer teaching- the one has less dignity and integrity than the other, I suppose.

I would love to do either acting or farming...I know, those both go really well together... I just love working outside and with animals, so much fun.
