If you could go back in time, when and where would you like to go? To a point in your personal history, or in world history?

If I could go back in time I'd go back into Bible times and meet Jesus. And if not that, I would go back to the Middle Ages.

Okay - I'm really curious about why you choose those times? I'm always intrigued by what others think. ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/smiley.gif)

Well, like I said I'd want to meet Jesus and get to witness miracles and go places he went. And the Middle Ages because I like knights and the princesses and all the stuff like that. ![8-)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/cool.gif)

Well, I can think of so many times and places from the past that I would like to visit. Like meeting Professor Tolkien, working with Florence Nightingale, back to the time when my country, Iceland, was covered from sea to mountains with fir forests, and etc etc. But what I would mostly like to be able to is to go back to the time when I started to lose confidence in myself, i.e. started to let the world value my worth, instead of doing it myself. elanor

I think I would like to go back to my childhood. I don't remember much of my younger years. I start remembering more from about the age of 8 and beyond. I want to know what type of child I was and to see how I compare with my children. If they are like me when I was their age. I also think I would like to go back to the 1950s, a place in time when technology was just coming into it's own. elanor - I, too, would love to meet the Professor. ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/smiley.gif)

Oh, I have so many! I'll go with the top two: Regency- This is the time period in which Jane Austen's novels are set. I'm still learning more about the time period, but it seems like a very good match for me, although I know class differences were huge. Mainly I love the costume- romantic Empire-waisted gowns, straw bonnets, travelling flats. And by then learning had become more valued in society (though money even more so), so it was acceptable to spend most of your days reading. Republican or Early Imperial Rome- I'm absolutely nuts about Ancient Rome; it's probably the historic period I'm most familiar with. I once wrote a creative piece about life in Herculaneum (a town near Pompeii) for a girl my age (then 15) during Augustus's reign. I had so much fun with that assignment- I was able to imagine what someone like me would do, see, eat, and wear. However, I believe very strongly in Christianity, and, though I don't think everyone should be a Christian, I shouldn't like to live without being able to fully take part in my religion. Of course, the obvious problem with both these eras is that they are before Tolkien's time! What on earth did they do up until fifty years ago today? ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/smiley.gif) Elen sila lumenn omentielvo, Lomadia

Being an English type person, I always has a facination with the old west… The I idea of exploration has always been in the back of my mind. Its probably gone on in my family history, but I just don’t know about it.
All this talk of visiting the dark ages doesnt do anything for me because I've read about how long gone members of my family suffered at that time.
I would love to see Napoleonic Wars. Iv been reading lots of books along those lines like Hornblower, Sharpe (for you Boromir fans) and especially, the Patrick O’Brian Books. You cant beat a bit of swashbuckling!
To see Ancient Rome would be pretty groovy too, especially the time it spent overlapping the Egyptian Empire. To be in a time you could see both would be amazing!

I agree with you, Jack- the Middle Ages are a great time to study, but just about the last time period during which I'd want to live. Now, when you say the Old West, do you mean cowboys and Indians and John Wayne and everything, or does the Old West have a different meaning in England? I live in the western United States, so I'm just curious. ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/smiley.gif) Elen sila lumenn omentielvo, Lomadia

Oh definitely the wild west! The idea of heading into the unknown has something alluring about it. There isn’t anywhere left to explore apart from infinite space now and I don’t think there’s much chance of me doing much looking around up there.
I always thought (and this might sound a little tacky if you live in the place this all comes from) that it’d be nice to just trek across some wild country on horseback. That’s one of the reasons I liked LOTR. The idea of being alone in the wilderness was always attractive to me. Shooting your own food, sleeping under the stars, I cant think of anything better.
Although we’ve got all the history in England, there’s very little wild country. Everywhere is agricultural. There are a few national parks (I like just next to the Lake District) but these are all over populated with tourists trying to get away from other tourists. Another choice for me are the various moors but having spent some time camping on them, I know its not quite what I’m after.
Nah, in the US you’ve got less people per square mile in general. Also, if you ride a horse here, you’ve gotta wear a stupid looking helmet, not a cool hat! X)

I would go back in world history, but I don't know about the exact date. It would be sometime in early America when people were still coming to the place.
