* This is just a dedication to Middle-earth. *
"When the World Was Young"
There was a time, ages ago, when the world was lived upon by all. Not just men, but Elves and Dwarves. Hobbits, Wizards, Dragons, Goblins, Orcs, Trolls and Fairies.
What happened to them all? Where did they go? Did they turn into dust? Did they vanish into thin air?
The Elves, they sailed into the next life to live and dwell in bliss forever. The Dwarves? It is not known what became of them...they hid even when they were thriving. Hobbits, well...perhaps they've evolved to look like you and I, other than that, it is a mystery that perhaps will never be solved. As for Wizards, there were only four: Sauron, Gandalf, Radagast and Saruman. They each left Middle-earth in their own way, never to return again. The Dragons, they were defeated and were gone long ago, their race was wiped out by the few brave souls that were willing to stand a chance. The Goblins? Perhaps all of them died when evil no longer lived in Middle- earth for a time. Orcs...it is most likely they were destroyed when their Master lost power; they had no evil to guide them where it would. Trolls were always so few, and dull to remember, their demise could not have been a problem. Now Fairies are probably the rarest of all, little about their departure is known.
The goodly races left Middle-earth for Men to rule. The rest, they all left and never seemed to return.
But what about then? Way back when? When the earth was still young and the earth was shared? What happened to our odd neighbors who departed so long ago? Are they out there somewhere? Are they hiding from view?
What happened to the times when the Elves dwelled in the woods, holding banquets and celebrations for all to enjoy? When they put their love and power into their gardens and trees, when they crafted great bows with arrows to match...
Where did the Dwarves go? They inhabited the mountains, building and crafting armor and gold of great splendor. Long, long ago when they flourished in their cities of stone, surpassing all other craftsmanship in Middle-earth. Yes, their race was some of the toughest.
What about the dear Hobbits? Why, without them the world would not be as it is today. They were more innocent than all other people; they lived in secluded and very green gardens. They held merry parties, invited their friends. They cared much for food, and gardens alike. They tended the earth, similar to the elves. They chose to remain quiet, ignoring the outside world. What happened?
The Wizards...if you should ever see one today, chances are you are dreaming, for they are all gone. They were the wise, the magnificent and strong. They led us through the hard times, they were tough. Some were quite evil, yet some were gentle. Their race had varied, it was only two- sided. The Wizards were something extraordinary indeed. We should never forget their will and their wisdom.
And the Dragons in their might and terror. They have existed once upon a time, ruling the skies with their armor harder than iron, their breath like a furnace. Destruction they caused, and some worked for the enemy...and then they were gone, they left almost as quickly as they came. They lived in Middle-earth once, but they exist no more.
And in a time when Goblins were the foes of all. Now only Man is Mans' worst enemy. Goblins were wicked; they delved in the mountains creating holes and caverns for their kind to live in. They caused mayhem during the night, hid in their caves during the day. Their alliance is with the Wargs, evil wolves by the name. But they too are gone, who knows where they went.
Orcs originated from the most beautiful of creatures, only to be turned into one of the most hideous. Their voices like metal, their hearts are of iron, their faces sallow, and their eyes meager slants. They love only to kill, yet they hate their master; for he is the cause of their misery. What happened to them? Is there still Elvish in them? No one knows, never will...because Orcs are also gone.
Trolls were very few and had no civil dwellings. Few words ever ran through their mind, they were dim. It was only when Sauron rose to almost full power that Trolls became cunning, known as the Olog-hai. They fought alongside their fellow Orc soldiers, causing more damage than 12 Orcs at once. But the history of Trolls is little if any. Because Trolls were destroyed along with their master.
The littlest is known about Fairies because they were elusive and difficult to find. They ought to have been fair, and its clear they possessed something that many other races in Middle-earth could not have. They existed in an age before the third one; they existed in a time but were seldom mentioned. Wherever they are, it certainly is not here. Because Fairies perished along with their friends.
If it is possible that they're all somewhere out there, they would never have been found, for they still have their magic. Why not continue to share thus world with Elves and Dwarves and many of the like? Because there was a battle for Middle-earth. It would belong to Sauron or it would belong to the Men. Either way, everyone would be gone. But since the world was given to Men, they rule it by themselves, they need no helping hand.
Because Middle-earth once existed, its spirit will always remain. The land beneath it will never forget its first owners: the forgotten races.
