I know I'm probably the only Orc fan here, but I'm allowed to make a thread, right? ^^; Anyway, I really really really love Orcs, as you can tell. I think for about 8 years now I've been a fan. Don't ask me why I like them, cause I myself don't know. Pity? *shrugs* Something I've always wondered (as I'm sure other people have too) is: are there female Orcs?

I think you are the only orc fan here! How wonderful for you to have a place just for youself!
As for your question, I have no idea. I know that the Urak Hai are grown, but no one ever really made it clear as to how the orcs got there...
Same as the goblins. I suppose there are females, just not anywhere in the books or movies.

Does it say in the book that the Uruk-hai are grown? ((Forgive me, I don't remember each detail.))
I mean, I don't think it ever said Orcs of any kind were created. But....of course they're going to show them being "made" in the movie! They would never get into all the behind-the-scenes stuff! XP

The Sil hints at Orcs at one time being elves who were captured by the Morgoth and tortured. I also know that Orcs do have families and procreate.

That's true. It mentioned something like....only the few (Elves) who strayed alone were caught and never to return again. I also think Orcish families might be somewhat important for two reasons. One is that they do try to avenge their folk when one of them is killed. And two, in BOLT 2, one of the Orcs says, "Assuredly Turin son of Hurin will not be slain." They mentioned his father's name which kinda tells me they see family as important, even if they do hate their own kind.
