Boromir also proved that he wasn't evil when he died in order to save Merry and Pipin. The ring had a control over him and the fact that Boromir wanted to save his city does matter too.
Anyway, I think Boromir is a great character in LOTR but my fav one is Aragorn.

Arwen - just curious as to why you like Aragorn.
You put up a pretty good case for Boromir, and then you picked Aragorn. What makes you like Aragorn more than Boromir?
It really is curiousity. I like to know what people think. ;D

First of all I'm reading the first book of LOTR now so I have seen the movies first. I judge all the characters from what I saw in the screen. I so didn't like Boromir until he died although he was alredy injured and that was really brave. As for Aragorn, well I like his character because he rejects or maybe he's afraid of the power he has, he's really brave and in general, I know that Boromor might be as good as (or even better) Aragorn but I like him more...maybe it's because I didn't read the books first.

Arwen - most people like Aragorn. During my first reading, he was my favourite human character. During my 3rd reading is when I really began to appreciate Boromir. I'm now in my 4th reading of LotR and I'm starting to look at other characters differently.

well, i voted for aragorn it was hard to choose between him, boromir and faramir for me. aragorn is just so kool, and i love the way he help's the hobbit's in bree and weathertop when no one else was there. i read the book's before the film's so im judging on the book's. i've read LOTR 5 times now and aragorn is my fave human still, along with faramir and eoywn. aragorn just show's so much strenght and courage. well i spose all the charecter's do. exept for denethor, i hate him. in the chapter " the seige of gondor" he say's: ' do you wish then,' said faramir 'that our places had been exchanged?' " 'yes, i wish that indeed,' said denethor. ' for boromir was loyal to me and no wizard's pupil. he would not have squandered what fortune gave. he would have bought me a mighty gift.' " how evil can you get. i also like eoywn because she show's so much bravery, defeting the witch-king like that. she was the only woman who actually got of her A** and actually done something, unlike galadriel who just kept telling everyone thet "middle-earth is falling", like they did'nt already know. i respect eoywn and she deservse's the respect she get's. although i really do like faramir and eoywn, my fave has to be aragorn, after all he is the king of gondor. i really loved the charecter of faramir in the two towers book, but when i saw him in the film i was really dissapointed by what they had truned him into. they have totaly destroyed a brilliant charecter and everyting that he stood for. you are also very right illuvartar. each time that you read LOTR you see deeper into each charecter. the first time you read it you don't properly understand each charecter, but after every reading, you find out more and more about them, their stenght's, weaknesse's, love's and hate's. you learn to apperciate each charecter more for their own contribution to the war more when you fully understand thet person. like boromir for instanse. when i started reading LOTR for the first time i didn't like him much , untill "the departure of boromir". the second time i read it, i began to like him more and more as i started to understand why he was doing certain things and i understond the whole charecter a lot better. know i've read it 5 time's i've really come to enjoy boromir's charecter. as some of you were saying earlier in the post, that boromir was evil. there is now way that boromir was evil. he only wanted to help, becuase he loved his father, brother and gondor so much. he did'nt try to take the ring for himself but he wanted it to save gondor. afterward's he realised his mistake and redeamed himself by saving merry and pippin. he is not evil at all, but a truly valiant and loyal man.

I voted Boromir - reasons for that, should be found in another thread *sits cross-legged, arms-crossed* I'd type up a storm as if it was an essay.

i voted Eowyn. she's one of the few women in LOTR and she kicks butt! strength and courage are awesome qualities in females and she has both

My favorite Human would have to be Borimir because he's the only person who gave in to the power of the ring. I mean, realistically If there was a magical ring that has the power to make me Immortal and give me strength beyond Immagination I'd probably try to snatch it too. Not that I'm greedy or anything... I'm just trying to be honest. ;D

My vote goes to Faramir of course! He is strong, brave, kind, sweet... He took a complicated life... and I feel a little bit sorry for him... First his mother died when he was a child. Then his father started to hate him for stupid reasons. Then the only person who understanded him died to! - his brother Boromir! I would say that Eowyn was his salvation! LoL...

Tough choice. I have to say Theoden first, he was such a cool king. Next I would choose Boromir, because he didn't really fit in with either the bad guys, or the good guys.
