If you haven't already heard, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh recently informed the online LotR community that New Line has told them they will no longer be considered for the film adaptation of The Hobbit. This all seems to have stemmed from the lawsuit PJ and company raised when they realized New Line may have been cheating them out of a share of the profits made on the FotR film. In a letter to TheOneRing.Net, they expressed their regret about New Line's decision, but also wished good luck to the as-yet-undecided filmmakers of the Hobbit. The letter can be viewed here: www.theonering.net/staticnews/1163993546.htmlI'm keen to hear what everyone thinks about this. I for one am still trying to absorb the shock, as pathetic as that sounds.

I wouldn't give up hope. Maybe somehow they'll patch everything together and make a halfway decent film. But I don't believe myself.

Wow! Seriously?
That’s rubbish! Who else can do it after them!? It's gotta be weird for the returning actors, and crew I'd imagine too. It was PJ and FW's vision from day one. I wonder if the style of movie will change at all?

TheOneRing.Net is posting some interesting interviews with big names in the Tolkien fandom regarding this whole business. So far they have Anne Petty (one of my favorite Tolkien critics) and Ted Nasmith (who a few years back gave us personal permission to use his art on our website, though we haven't really done much with that permission). Both of them give thoughtful opinions on the question of Peter Jackson's involvement in the hypothetical Hobbit film.
