What is the nature of evil after the destruction of Sauron? Is evil completely eradicated? (D. Young)

Good question Lomadia! Well, I know it wasn't you personally, lol. But anyway, that's one that I pondered myself, after the first reading of the Sil. I think evil is still very much intact in the hearts of men. Melkor sowed it there at the dawn of the Atanatari, and even the destruction of Sauron, the chaining of Melkor, and the obliteration of most of the harmful Maia and orcs at the various strongholds didn't undo that alteration. The task of the good guys after the Third Age, it would seem, is to rebuild their previous glory and continue the fight against ubiquitous evil. Basically, I think evil was cut down to a level where man could handle it on his own.
