When I was reading another thread, I was reminded of one of my favorite writings of the book. At the east gate(east, surely?) of Moria, when the drums go"doom" I just love the way it is a pune, or a play on words Doom, Mithrandil is lost,or just doom, here's my drum. Anybody else like that part?

Yup, it's one of those things I like. I'm not a writer myself, so I don't know if Professor Tolkien was doing in on intention. It just struck my simple mine ;D

Yes, it was. I don't know what that technique is called.
And doom spelled backwards is mood.
