Radagast, I understand how you feel about Sam. He isn't "clever" in the real sense, but he has, in my opinion, the best intuition of the Fellowship. An example is...he realises Frodo's intention of leaving alone purely based on intuition into his friend's soul.Another: he is very wise in the sense that he knows himself really well, an example: he knows he's better fitted to wield a spade than a Ring of Power. ah...I love Sam as well. I like his character so much. It is so neat that he can know Frodo so well. That is truly a gift..to know a person so well.

I thought Sam was clever. He makes up his own poetry, which is something very amazing for hobbits in general, and he thinks things through well, and is logical. I just thought that he seemed a little less intelligent because he isn't as well educated as Frodo and the others.

I think it is hinted at in the book that Sam IS more educated than some Hobbits, because Bilbo "taught him his letters" like the Gaffer puts it elanor
