I really like Lord of the Rings but the style of Tolkien's writing can be a bit slow sometimes, but most of it is really good.
Some parts are difficult to read such as the Council of Elrond.

Well, Eru, this thread doesn't seem to be very popular, but I sure like it! I have, as may have been noticed, very single-minded opinions about LoTR. I react very strongly to different parts of the book. On a purely gut level, I can cry at times when I read the departure of Boromir, it is such a beautifully written point in the history. The part when, after the Burning of the Ring, when the Hobbits are honored always has me in tears also. I ofcourse like a lot of parts with Sam in it, and maybe my favorite part of the book, is Sam's "Choices" near Cirith Ungol, when he is put hard to the test. My least favorite part is the Bombadil part ![:-/](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/nottoosure.gif) what is your favorite?

I loved the mines of Moria, and the part when Boromir tries to take the Ring, so Bilbo goes off bravely on his own. And though it was VERY long, I also kind of liked the chapter in FOTR called "the council of elrond", because it tells the history of the Ring finally, and shows to all the important and powerful council members that the Ring's fate is tied up in the hands of a little hobbit. I love the poem in that chapter, that Faramir heard in a dream, especially the line, "and the Hafling forth shall rise."
I also like the parts with Treebeard, because he talks so slow and it makes the hobbits so impatient. Also the battle at Helm's Deep, and especially the part with Frodo throwing the ring in Mount Doom.
My least favourite part - Bombadil, hands down.

I like Bombadil!!! ![:-*](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/kissykissy.gif) I really do. I like the mystery we get from Bombadil. All the questions I have about him and Goldberry just add to the uniqueness of LotR. I also like any parts with Ents. I'm so curious about the Entwives and if Sam's cousin might have really seen one. My least favourite part was all that walking and scrambling across barren, rocky land with Frodo, Sam, and Gollum. I get a bit impatient there at times.

I kinda agree with you on the "barrenness", although I do like the little tidbits about how Frodo fades step by step. elanor

I can't think of anything I'd change about LOTR. Honestly. ![:-[](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/blushy.gif)

I love the entire story(ies) of the books. As a whole they are the best thing to pass in front of my eyes since my wife and daughter.
The things I don't like so much are the occasional slowness of some parts, and the fact that I haven't heard enough about what the other rings of power actually do, or what there purpose was.
I only watched the movies and have read The Hobbit and books 5 and 6, so I don't know if the other books go more in depth about the other rings...

i'm a bit facinated, why a lot of people were sad for that moment, when Boromir died? I think in a way i enjoyed this tragic part to read, i didn't cry and i thought it was beautiful written. In the end i didn't care much for Boromor, for that he died in the books, i cared much more for people that had more strength against the ring, if Aragorn would have died for instance, that really would piss me off. MY BIG DISLIKE ABOUT THE LOTR BOOK Okeey the thing i really hated wasn't entirely in the book, it was the way that Arwen would die, not the same as Beren and Luthien, would have died, they went together. No Arwen lived on hundreds of years in solitude (is that the good word for it, english is not my native language), anyway why do this, why not put something in that they went together or something. It really struck my heart when i read that piece, it was as if it was something that happended to Tolkien in some way... ![:'(](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/weep.gif)

I really dont have anything I dont like about The Lord of The Rings, it is all great! But I dont "like" Frodo getting hurt but it is neccesary to see what they went through, it helps to better understand. If they didnt include it, then you would think differently about their whole journey and might have thought it was easier, which is of course not true
