I'm afraid nazgul's right...for once.
Tom Bombadil, However cool he was, didn't really affect the story very much. And especially, he had nothing to do with the fellowship.

[glow=Green,2,300]Frodo,[/glow] Because he is the Ring-bearer, Hobbit of the Shire, Elf-friend, and a hero!

I personally love Boromir and I think I got teary-eyed reading the Lament for Boromir....
Through Rohan over fen and field where the long grass grows The West Wind comes walking, and about the walls it goes. 'What news from the West, O wandering wind, do you bring to me tonight? Have you seen Boromir the Tall by moon or by starlight?' 'I saw him ride over seven streams, over waters wide and grey; I saw him walk in empty lands, until he passed away Into the shadows of the North. I saw him then no more. The North Wind may have heard the horn of the son of Denethor.' 'O Boromir! From the high walls westward I looked afar, But you came not from the empty lands where no men are.'
From the mouths of the Sea the South Wind flies, from the sandhills and the stones; The wailing of the gulls it bears, and at the gate it moans. 'What news from the South, O sighing wind, do you bring to me at eve? Where now is Boromir the Fair? He tarries and I grieve.' 'Ask not of me where he doth dwell -- so many bones there lie On the white shores and the dark shores under the stormy sky; So many have passed down Anduin to find the flowing Sea. Ask of the North Wind news of them the North Wind sends to me!' 'O Boromir! Beyond the gate the seaward road runs south, But you came not with the ailing gulls from the grey sea's mouth.'
From the Gate of Kings the North Wind rides, and past the roaring falls; And clear and cold about the tower its loud horn calls. 'What news from the North, O mighty wind, do you bring to me today? What news of Boromir the Bold? For he is long away.' 'Beneath Amon Hen I heard his cry. There many foes he fought. His cloven shield, his broken sword, they do the water brought. His head so proud, his face so fair, his limbs they laid to rest; And Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, bore him upon its breast.' 'O Boromir! The Tower of Guard shall ever northward gaze To Rauros, golden Rauros-falls, until the end of days.'
And in the Extended Edition of Fellowship, when Boromir talks about them returning to Gondor...
"The White Tower of Ecthelion, glimmering like a spike of pearl and silver. Its banners caught high in the morning breeze. Have you ever been called home by the clear ringing of silver trumpets?"
Oh Eru, how I cried...because you knew he'd be dead...*sniff*
"One day, our paths will lead us there. And the tower guard shall take up the call: "The Lords of Gondor have returned!"
This one too....

It's hard to pick a favorite out of so many great characters but to just pick one I would pick Gandalf with Aragorn a close second.
Gandalf was the pebble that started the avalanche. He was the catalyst for good in Middle Earth for the whole third age. A messenger from the far West sent to unite those who had the will to resist Sauron.
From Appendix B the third age
". . . but Cirdan surrendered his to Mithrandir. For Cirdan saw further and deeper than any other in Middle - earth. and he welcomed Mithrandir at the Grey Havens, knowing whence he came and wither he would return. "Take this ring, Master he said . . .

I'm not going to vote, because I have no clue. I love elves, and Legolas in cool, so I would vote for him. But then again, Gandalf's power in really neat to have in the story, so I would vote for him. On the other hand, I like Sam. He's loyal, and wise, though at some times he can be rather un-wize ![:P](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/tongue.gif) , but I would vote for him. Then, I like Frodo. He's just one of my favorite charecters, and he desroys the ring ![:P](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/tongue.gif) , so I would vote for him. Man!! I just can't chose....
