Well i jus wanted to see what every thought about lLOTRbeing taught in the class room. i think, that the shoulldn't. altho LOTR is a brilliant book and i would love to study it at school, i just dn't think that most kid's would appriciate this sort of book, or enen understand it. i know that if my teacher wanted to study it with our class, it would be a dissaster. i think its a choice that YOU have to make weather you want to read a book, and essesially with a book with the lenght and comlexity od LOTR i don't think taht anyone would know what half the words ment. i think taht they should teach the hobbit. its smaller and easier, LOTR's is to hard to be taught at school, and reading it wouldnt even be the hard part, it would be analyzing it afterwards and writting essey's. I choose Yes but only in top classes. I'm going on the assumption you are referring to higher grades or enriched (smarter) classes. I think it can be taught in school and I have heard of some schools which do teach it. I think it would need to be in a higher grade level because of the complexity of the book. There is so much there and it is a rather long book. But hey - Shakespeare is studied at all secondary school grade levels, why not Tolkien? Just my opinions.

true i would love to study LOTR at school rather than shakspeare, at least LOTR makes sense!! i think that LOTR would be better taught at collage thought. to read LOTR you have to have an intrest in fantasy and medievil battle, and most kids now days dont like that sorta thing.

Im sorry I have to say no. Books in school are ..well kinda enforced onto kids. There's a whole world of discovery in LOR. But it's better to find it your self. The books in school sucked!!!! or maybay it was just me at the time ?

I would love to study Tolkien in my school too! But... Tolkien is not a portuguese writer so it would be dificult...! In my Portuguese classes I only study Portuguese writers like Luís de Camões; Almeida Garret; Fernando Pessoa and many more! And...In my English classes when it would be a perfect place to study Tolkien, I only study English Grammar and how to speak the language...! Even if Tolkien was studied in my school few ppl would like! I mean, the most part of my classmates don't like LotR that much!....How stupid they are...

I said yes, but I think in AP or advanced classes only. There are numerous people at my school that love the movies and would probably like the book too. One girl that loves the movies was talking to me and i said something about Eowyn and she didn't even know who she was. The books are complicated and could be hard for some people to understand. We read The Hobbit, but i think the teachers excuses for not doing LotR is because it is so long. I would love to study it in school though...

I chose YES!
So many children are not as literate as they should be. I think that Tolkien would inspire them to be more creative, maybe even make them WANT to write stories, or poetry.
I think for that reason, it would be excellent to have it taught in schools.

I think it should be offered as an elective. Like at my school. Yes, I am one of the lucky few who has a Tolkien class at her school. I'm trying to get into it next semester, but I'm a junior, and seniors get priority. It sounds like the most amazing class. The teacher is my academic advisor, and she's one of the coolest teachers at my school. And she assigns creative projects and research papers and everything. Oh, I really, really want to take it! I'll just have to wish and hope to my fullest extent, and see what happens. Elen sila lumenn omentielvo, Lomadia

It should be taught at home, before the little ones ever get old enough for school. The Hobbit was one of my favorite books as a small child. I was reading LotR myself by the time my fellow students were reading the silly 3rd grade-level books the government schools wanted us to read.
