Oh Isengard, I can't just let that go. I need to know why you think he was so wretched in the books and better in the movies. I'm such a curious one. ![8-)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/cool.gif)

I'm curious to know the answer to that as well...especially from the viewpoint of someone with Grima Wormtongue and Saruman on their signature. ![:)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/smiley.gif)

Ok, this bits sad, but when we played LOTR as kids, I was always Boromir. I could relate to the book character massively. He was a big guy (I always liked the idea of him trying to carry the hobbits through the deep snow), he was a fantastic fighter, and very caring towards the cause. He tried to look after everyone (again, the hobbits in particular) and was only let down by his actions at the very end. Even then, he managed to redeem himself while defending Merry and Pippin.
In the movie, (like with Faramir) they had distorted his role and personality. I found myself disliking movie Boromir when Book Boromir had always been my Favourite Character from the first (and briefly second) book. Admitedly, PJ did Boromir’s death sceen very well. Similar to the fall of Gandalf in how it was so moving. And I was SO pleased they put the extra Osgiliath (on the wall with the Banner) scene in TTT special DVD. You got to see more of the book Boromir there I thought.
Again, the exact same goes for Faramir. I quite liked him in the book. He despised the ring for killing his brother and driving his dad bonkers. He looked after the hobbits then sent them on their way. Book faramir (being close to Gandalf) was wise beyond his years. Movie Faramir was a bit of a gimp. I hope PJ held some good scenes back for the ROTK. He’s got making up to do I think.

i definitely think they played boromir out as bit too "selfish" for want of a better word - although they are trying to emphasise the lure of the ring on boromir, too much of it seems to make him come across as arrogant and ignororant, he seems far too much like a "baddie " than i read him as in the books.
saying that i still like him in the films (although i wonder how people who have not read the book percieve him) and his final scene is one of my favourite (if sad) scenes in the whole trilogy - seeing him give his all and whip those orcs asses - it's like - yes this is how caning boromir can be! what a dude! followed by one of the most emotionally stirring parts of the whole trilogy (on a par with the grief following gandalfs fall) as he finally falls. - also i am so glad they put the osgiliath scene in TT EE as i think this shows him in a much better light - although it would have been better still to have had boromir volunteer to go in his farmirs stead (as he feared for his little bothers safety) as in the book.
