I am beckoned by those of times before, called to a home I once forsook
recalling the long and tiresome pathways that we took
yet here I lie, cold and alone, for I have reached tale’s end
and I fain a new road to take, and a new tale to begin
do not fret our parting, nor dream of lonely days
for we shall meet again beyond the end of all known ways
much we had to do, and we have seen it done
so now we take the lonesome paths beyond the setting Sun
the shadow we defy, and leave the dark behind
taking the forgotten roads, our former home to find
our faith kept us whole, our love bound us as one
and many deeds fell and dark we have seen undone
but there always comes a time; an age for ages past
to return to what we left behind, to find home at long last
please know, parting’s grief will pass in time, and peace you shall hold.
There are times with dire need for actions and deeds bold
and some must rise and fulfill their oaths, though it be their end
for always there must be the ones who home and love defend
thus we were, as was our choice, and this reward receive
a long forgotten dream: return! return! for these twilit lands may leave!
Go back where we were banished from, finally depart these lands
this prison of ours no longer upholds, so we sail now for white sands
too long we have here dwelt, ‘neath dull and fading trees
so here, at last my brethren! we sail across the Seas!
The shores that once were closed to us now open up their arms
and within those shores, no pain or war, we shall ne’er come to harm
this world has wearied me past what rest can heal
long had I prayed the Ones beyond would hearken to my appeal
and now the time has come to us, to reclaim that lost afore
the time for us to pass, depart for distant shore
the singing can be heard at night, the fading lights still seen
as all of us –the passing ones– depart for lands more green
we leave this world we long abided, the lands we one time reigned
our valleys are empty, the woods silent, where once our songs proclaimed
we become memories held by some, yet memories always pass
as past our distant, hidden shores we tread the verdant grass
we sing behind the blessed walls of Tirion the bold
as all the rest within the world are left to touch of cold.
