AT THE SIGN OF THE PRANCING PONYThe hobbits enter Bree and head to the Prancing Pony. There they meet some interesting characters and learn more about their journey. Questions to Ponder(please feel free to answer one, all, or none of the questions, they are here to help get you thinking about the chapter)

What do you think of Bree? Well, they probably think that they are pretty great, and have no clue whats going on down south in Rohan and Gondor. To me, they don't seem much different than the hobbits in the Shire, except for that their lives are a little more active.
Who are the Rangers and what sets them apart? Dunadain (nothing new there) and well, I haven't finnished the Silmarillion yet, but I think they are from the royal line of Numenor. I might be wrong, but thats what I think. From what I get, all the Dunadain are related to the line of kings, but only Aragorn is directly in that line.

What do you think of Bree?
The people of Bree seem fairly metropolitan with dwarves, elves, and people of all kinds coming to Bree.
The Bree Men were the descendants of the first men who ever came West.
Interesting thing - Bree men were shorter than average. I wonder could they possibly mingled with hobbits over the years?
Did you notice the use of direction (North, South, East, and West). How is it used? (i.e. on the Barrows Tom Bombadil says to stay to the West) What do you the symbolism/significance of it is, if it means anything?
North - evil, Mordor is north. South - ? East - ? West - is good. Elves sailing west.

One thing, Mordor is east. Well, south east.
