Please feel free to share whatever you know about Ents. And let us know where you found the information. Most of what I know comes from LotR, but I don't have the HoMe series and am curious if they are in it.

[glow=black,2,300]Sadly, dear Eru, I have never held an interest in the Ents, just have always thought they were awesome. Perhaps at a later date I shall look into their history.[/glow]

all i know is that they probably came from the other side of the misty mountains, and they hate orcs (besides characters like me <--, who doesn't?). they seem to know a little bit about the shire-area

Ents were a race of tree beings created by the Ainur Yandalla I believe. If not by her, then one of those Ainur. Don't know why they were created, maybe much like the same reason dwarves were made by the Ainur...Ulmos? (forgot which Ainur created the dwarves, not even sure if Ulmos is in fact an Ainur). Whoever created the dwarves did so without consent of Iluvatar to help with the shaping of mountains and rock I think. But by the time Iluvatar found out it was already too late, for the dwarves were already censioned, and showed great fear when he ordered their extermination. So he decided to let them stay. So maybe Yandalla created the ents to help with the forests, and maybe she had the consent of Iluvatar, not exactly sure. But I do know that Yandalla, or one of the other Ainur brought life to the trees.

Did Yavanna create them or did she awaken them?

Well, since the trees were already there, Yavanna did "awaken" them I guess. They were already living, she just made them censioned I guess.

Well every other race on middle earth share the same basic physical features such as eyes, nose, beards (not elves of course) and other stuff like arms and hands. So maybe she just wanted to make them look more like the rest of them, I dunno.

hobbits don't have beards either, and if she wanted them to look like the rest, why are they ~70 feet tall or whatever

Some hobbits do have beards. ![;)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/wink.gif) Yavanna may have wanted them to look like the other races but not identical. Every race has a special attribute as compared to the others. Ents height give them an advantage especially for the job - tree shepherds. It would be difficult to watch over trees without the height.

I thought I read that hobbits don't grow facial hair.

I'm staring a Hobbit thread under "Hobbits" so we can discuss further without taking away from the un-hasty Ents.

I thought I read that hobbits don't grow facial hair. I thought they did, I may be wrong though. ![::)](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v347/Hannah22/Fourm/eyeballs.gif)
