What do you think of Tolkien's book The Hobbit? Do you like it, not like it? Do you think of it as a children's book? Share your thoughts.

I didn't like it, but I didn't not like it. I go back and forth everyday and just decide that LotR is better and to stick on that.

The Hobbit is a classic. Great adventure story, and easy to read. Tolkien seemed to put a lot less detail in this book than in LOTR, making it a quick, enjoyable read. Best chapter is Riddles in the Dark.

Wow...that's pretty much my exact opinion, Bombadil.

i think that the writings of tolkien function on a variety of levels. the hobbit is a great book to get younger readers, or one who only want an easy chance to scratch the surface of tolkiens world, an introduction to middle earth. while LOTR, and even morso the silmarillion, lost tales, etc require a little more time and delving into the story and universe. this is not to say the hobbit is a lame or boring read for those who are deeply into the tolkien world, just that it requires less of you then reading his other books do. had it not been for the hobbit and specifically the rankin and bass cartoon(which my parents got me the record of when i was young, complete audio of the movie with extended musical sequences, i know, whats a record?) i wouldnt have gotten into the whole fantasy genre to begin with(so im sure companys like TSR and such thank tolkien as well due to the money i have spent on their products over the years) -don

kind of off topic, but you may be excited(or afraid) to hear that an artemis fowl movie is in the works for like 2006/2007 in there somewhere. -don
